December 2, 1934 - December 2, 2023

Martin passed to glory December 2, 2023 on his 89th birthday at Dogwood Village of Orange, Virginia. He was born December 2, 1934 in Lusk, Wyoming to Ralph and Mary (Kinney) McFarlane. He graduated from Niobrara County High School, Lusk, in 1954. After graduation, Martin served four years in the US Navy. On June 24, 1961, he married his love, Sharon Kay Huls, from Newcastle, Wyoming. He did this while attending Casper Junior College, receiving an A.S. in Electronics in 1962.

He then began his 30-year career with US state department. During this time, he and his family lived in seven different countries, on five different continents and visited many cities around the world. After retiring in 1993, Martin then worked for Rappahannock Electric Cooperative in Culpeper, Virginia; and then for Michael Sharman, a Culpeper, Virginia lawyer, as a Data Entry Clerk.

He greatly enjoyed traveling and loved his yearly drive to Wyoming to visit friends and relatives. He was interested in meeting new people. He loved nature, photography, and pictures of all the beauty in this world. He enjoyed archery and hunting (when he was younger). He would never pass up good food and pleasant conversation.

Martin attended Culpeper Christian Fellowship Church and weekly sessions at various Bible studies. He stated many times during his lifetime that, “In all the traveling and adventures of my life, my greatest loves, "my wife and children" came only second to the Supreme Love I have always given to my Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.”

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Sharon; his sister, Marjorie; and his brother, Robert. He is survived by his children: Bryan McFarlane (Dennet) of Orange, Virginia; Terri (Teresa) McFarlane of Jacksonville, North Carolina; Paula McFarlane of Fort Wayne, Indiana; and Nancy Burke (Jeffery) of Culpeper, Virginia; nine grandchildren whom he loved and enjoy dearly -Melissa, Marlana, Josh, Ethan, Christopher, Mariah, Samantha, Zachary, Gregory, and his six great-grandchildren- Hunter, Amelia, Ellie, Jameson, Seth, and Charlotte; and by his brother Gary McFarlane (Joyce) of Greeley, Colorado.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Culpeper Christian Fellowship, 15460 Bradford Road, Culpeper, Virgina 22701.

There will be memorial service at Culpeper Christian Fellowship Tuesday, December 19, 2023 at 1:00p.m. Earlier that day, he will be placed in Culpeper National Cemetery with military honors provided by the V.F.W. 2524 Honor Guard.
