LINGLE – Enduring single-digit temperatures, the Niobrara County High School girls’ basketball team ventured to Dogger Gym Friday afternoon. The home team is off to a fast start so far, and put the Lady Tigers in an early hole with their defensive pressure. The lead was 15-8 in favor of Lingle-Fort Laramie after one period. NCHS hung around with the Wyopreps Coaches and Media Poll’s fifth-ranked Lady Doggers until a 14-7 run by the home squad. The lead was 37-19 at the break.

Lusk coughed up nearly a dozen third period turnovers as the LFLHS lead increased to 61-27. As the final quarter wound down, NCHS was out of gas in the 69-30 defeat.

The JV hosted the Torrington freshmen last week and fell by the 42-19 score. Marleigh Smith led NCHS with nine points and Sarah Krein added six.

This week NCHS travels to Burns for another conference game on Friday, January 19, before the Southeast Cyclones and Lady Cyclones visit the Tiger Gym on Saturday. Tipoff on Friday for the Lady Tigers is 5:30 p.m., followed by the Tigers at 7 p.m. On Saturday, game times are 2:30 p.m. for varsity girls and 4 p.m. for boys’ varsity.
