Ladies open regionals against Tongue River

Posted

PINE BLUFFS – The Lady Tigers last regular season game at the Hornet’s Nest was a slow starter for both squads last Friday night. Rachel Krein banked in a three pointer at the 3:49 mark and Lusk’s lead was 6-4.

It was 8-7 in Niobrara County High School’s favor after the first quarter. Krein knocked down another triple and moments later Paige Potter spotted up for a three pointer. Lusk’s lead was 18-11 before the home team went on a 15-0 run into halftime.

Phoebe Allbright’s three pointer kept NCHS within seven late in the third quarter, but again the Lady Hornets made a run. The home team’s lead expanded to 20 points at 4:29 remaining, and the Lady Tigers couldn’t rally in the 57-30 defeat.

The Lady Tigers open the 2A East Regional tournament against Tongue River. The teams met in Wright at the 2A East Smackdown with the Lady Eagles winning by the 51-38 score. Tipoff is scheduled for 4 p.m. Thursday afternoon at Pine Bluffs High School. All tournament brackets and ticket prices are available at whsaa.org.
