Another tough week for Lady Tigers

LUSK – Thursday night’s game against the defending 1A state champs from Upton saw the Niobrara County High School girls fall behind early. The Lady Bobcats pressured Lusk into five first period turnovers and held a 16-8 advantage. A 14-2 run by the visitors and suddenly the halftime lead had become 30-10.

The Lady Tiger offense came alive in the second half as Phoebe Allbright and Paige Potter bookended the third with three pointers. Potter’s came from Caitlyn Clark range at the buzzer for the 49-27 score. Allbright completed another hat trick and Rachel Krein showed her range with a three pointer in the final minutes. Despite the efforted comeback, the Lady Tigers fell by the 60-45 count.

Friday evening against the Lady Hornets, Krein halted an early 6-0 run by the visitors with a trey. However, the typically tall Pine Bluffs girls pushed ahead 15-8 after one quarter. Three straight triples by Pine’s Kelsie Bymer doubled their advantage in a matter of minutes. At the break the visitors held a 35-16 lead.

Bymer knocked down two more long bombs in the third, but Allbright answered with a hat trick, while the rest of the squad was converting free throws. NCHS went 11 of 12 in the quarter but only managed to shave a point off the deficit. Allbright made her fourth three pointer of the night midway through the final period, but the Lady Tigers were defeated, 62-45.

On Friday the Lady Tigers host Lingle-Fort Laramie (5:30 p.m.) before traveling to Guernsey-Sunrise on Monday, February 5
