Glenna Madden of Torrington and Phyllis Hahn of Lusk, represented the American Legion Ferdinand Brandstetter Auxiliary Unit #1 of Van Tassell, when they attended the visitation of their American Legion Auxiliary District #2 President, Kathy Troupe of Hartville, on Sunday, March 10, in the afternoon.   The Dutch Lunch dessert and beverage meeting was held in a dining area of Deacon’s Restaurant in Torrington. It is a “red-letter” year for the organization, which is looking forward to the Centennial celebration in late June, with Van Tassell, holding the distinction of being the very first American Legion Post organized in the entire United States. Veterans and family members with eligibility for membership are encouraged to contact Dale Miller (phone 334-9918) to consider joining the Post or Phyllis Hahn, Auxiliary President (334-2777), if a family member wishes to support the military by joining to help with the many needs of veterans.

Evelyn Perry accompanied her niece, Barb Rapp, to Douglas on Sunday, March 10, to pay a call on Evelyn’s sister-in-law, Flora Holm. Evelyn and Barb had lunch at the Village Inn before calling on Flora at her home. They were joined by Flora’s sister, Faye Perry, also of Douglas, for the birthday visit.

Belinda and Darrell Maloney of Chadron, Nebr., were Sunday, March 10, visitors in Lusk at the home of her mother, Clarabelle Davis. Other family members who joined them for a good visit were Sam and Rhonda Blaney. They shopped at the Family Dollar store and went to dinner together at the Triangle 4 Restaurant.

“If you can’t say somethin’ nice, don’t say nuthin’ at all!” That was the words of Thumper as he thumped his foot, the gentle bunny rabbit in the classic Walt Disney movie, “Bambi.” At first, the ferocity of the recent blizzard brought few nice thoughts. I watched the birds huddling frantically on the feeder, trying to find a bit of shelter against the harsh wind and felt sorry for creatures that live among the natural elements. Also high on the list is my sympathy for ranchers, trying to deal with the calving and lambing season right now. The next day, as the snow let up for a while, the art work of the Wyoming wind was revealed; some amazing curvaceous and really tall drifts in strange places. So now my list includes thankfulness for; a young neighbor who scooped the snow on my drive and porch steps, stockpiled food, electricity still functioning, a warm house, friends who call, radio alerts regarding closures, etc.   And that is a lot of “somethin’ nice!”
