LUSK - Around Lusk appreciation for those who have served their country in the military can always be found but Memorial Day weekend is a special time. The town prepares for the upcoming holiday with flags and service banners. 4-H members gather with American Legion and VFW members to place flags on veteran gravesites and special guests and speakers get ready for the ceremonies on Memorial Day.
Members of the Lusk Elks and Lusk DOES gathered to honor military service men and women who died in service with a ceremony at the Lusk cemetery.
Later, the American Legion and VFW hosted a luncheon and ceremony with guest speakers at the Niobrara Fair grounds. Mayor Doug Lytle and veteran Adam Dickson were guest speakers. The American Legion firefighter Certificate of Commendation recipients were Royce Thompson for Lusk Post #4 and Ryan Meng for Van Tassell Post #1. The Legionnaire of the Year was Jimmy Shane. Law Enforcement of the Year was Kelly Dean.
If your loved one’s gravesite was missed during the flag placement please contact Gale Graham with their name, section, row and grave number if known so that it can be added to the list.
