LUSK - On Wednesday May 17 during the LEMS Student Workday, grade 4-6 students spent a couple hours helping out at the Niobrara Conservation District in the district garden. Students set posts and started installing a deer fence around the garden.
They started the conditioning of straw bales for a straw bale garden trial. Students planted asparagus, carrots, kohlrabi, and potatoes which have started to come up. They also tested soaker hoses, completed paths between some new beds, hauled wood chips and cleaned up the perennial pollinator plots.
Students did a great job while here, as the kids finished up, they continued on to the next blessed recipient of their community efforts.
