NIOBRARA COUNTY – Free barbecues throughout the Fair sponsored by area corporations will go on as planned on Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday with some modifications to serving and seating.
“We’re encouraging everybody to spread out and not group up if they can,” said Niobrara County Extension Administrative Assistant and Fair Manager Erin Smith. “It may take a little longer to get through barbeque lines. Everything is outside, we have tons of space and people generally spread out and enjoy the whole fairgrounds anyway.”
Per state public health guidelines, there will be volunteers serving food to replace the typical buffet-style set up. Servers will be required to wear face coverings and gloves in an attempt to minimize the amount of people coming in contact with food, Smith said.
“All of our barbeque sponsors are really excited to be at the fair and see everybody,” Smith said. “We’re just hoping everyone comes and at least gets to visit with friends.”
At these meals, there will be individual packets of ketchup, mustard and chips.
In addition to evening barbecues, early risers can find free breakfasts between 6:30 a.m. and 8 a.m. on Monday, Wednesday and Thursday of Fair, also sponsored by area organizations.
The kitchen operated by the Niobrara County Homemakers will be open from 11 a.m. until 2 p.m. Monday through Friday.
