Posted: Thursday, Feb 6th, 2014

Fannie Gaukel celebrates 100 years with her friends and family.

“In her century-long lifetime, Fannie witnessed dramatic changes in the world, from the plains of Kansas to the space age”. Celebrating the 100th birthday of Fannie Gaukel was a display of pictures showing the changes in the world about her as she grew up and matured, mention was made of milestones passed in the succeeding years, such as talking movies, flapper dresses in her youth and events up to the present day.

Fannie Lincoln was born in Jerome, Kansas in 1914. In the coming years, her family moved to Wyoming where she became acquainted with a neighbor, Emery Gaukel, of the Jireh-Keeline area. The couple were married in Douglas, Wyoming on October 15, 1930. They welcomed their first child, Phyllis in 1931. Kenny was born 1934, Aileen in 1936, Danny in 1941 and Joanne in 1943. The young family moved to the farm near Keeline in 1942. Fannie Gaukel has many memories of century-filled events from the beginning of World War I, the stock market crash of 1929, the coming of the mechanical age (cars, household equipment, etc.) to man’s landing on the moon, and the wonders of the present day technology.

Her life was blessed with her first grandchild in 1951 and she became a great-grandma in 1973. Descendants include 16 grandchildren, 32 great grandchildren, and four great-great grandchildren.
