Winners presented with VOD scholarship

Since 1942, the Voice of Democracy has been the Veterans of Foreign Wars premier scholarship program. Each year, more than 50,000 high school students compete for more than $2.3 million in scholarships and incentives. Students compete by writing and recording a broadcast script on an annual theme.

The theme for the 2013-14 Voice of Democracy competition was “Why I’m Optimistic About America’s Future”

It turned out to be a challenging subject, however the two winners for this year came through with excellent thoughts. The winners this year are Jayci Shoults. She receives a first place Voice of Democracy Merit certificate of merit and a check for $75.00. Kristy DeGering receives a second place Voice of Democracy certificate of merit and a check for $50.00

English instructor, Cara Bandalos, is given a Voice of Democracy Award Citation in sincere appreciation and recognition of valuable cooperation and assistance rendered in behalf of the Voice of Democracy Audio Essay Competition.

We thank the Judges for the competition, who were Patricia Smith, Lola ZumBrunnen and Linda Kane, who took time from their busy lives to support the program.

The first place winner’s entry was forwarded to State competition
