‘Quilts of Valor’ to cover local troops

Posted: Thursday, Jun 27th, 2013

Sgt. Michael J. Williams was presented with a Quilt of Valor last Friday. His parents, Terry and Dana Williams (L to R), his wife Samantha, and Sgt. Michael J. Williams, and his brother Larry Williams.

Quilting needles have been especially busy at Lickety Stitch Quilts. Lusk’s very own “creative sewing center” has joined with the Quilts of Valor Foundation (QOV) in a mission to cover the soldiers of Niobrara County. The QOV Foundation is an organization devoted to the fabrication and dedication of quality quilts to servicemen who have been affected to some extent by war. Karen Wisseman, owner of Lickety Stitch Quilts, covering every serviceman in Niobrara County is no small task.

“It looks like we have between 20 and 30 to make,” Wisseman said. “So, we have a big project ahead of us.”

Fortunately, the Lickety Stitch team is not tackling this ambitious project by themselves. According to Wisseman, community support has been strong.

“We’ve had great support from the community,” Wisseman said. “We’re just barely getting started. So, as people hear about it, the support grows.”

Indeed, the support has been growing. Thus far, the Lickety Stitch team has received various forms of support from the local areas. Wisseman stated that contributions have included sweat equity and financial donations.
