Posted: Thursday, Jun 13th, 2013

The empty residence on 100 block of North Third Avenue was ablaze in the early morning hours on June 10.

LUSK - Lusk firefighters did battle with a blaze that claimed an entire residential on Monday, June 10.

According to Lusk Fire Chief John Eddy, the Lusk firefighters first learned of the fire at 3:30 a.m., when multiple 9-1-1 calls began pouring into the department. Callers reported a large fire at the 100 block of North Third Avenue. Responding units included two pumpers, one from the city and one from the county. Upon arrival, firefighters found the structure enveloped in flames.

“It (the structure) was fully engulfed when we got there,” Eddy told the Herald. “It was a total loss.”

The 13 volunteers that comprise the Lusk Fire Department made short work of the fire, extinguishing it in approximately 15 to 20 minutes. A deluge gun was used to knock the blaze down, while handlines were used to deal with the smoke and embers. Generators and scene lights were used to illuminate the scene as firefighter worked.

While firefighters were unable to save the residential structure, they were able to keep the fire from claiming a detached garage. None of the nearby houses were threatened by the blaze.
