LUSK-On April 2 Graham T. Parfitt was traveling eastbound on US 18 driving on a dry roadway with clear weather conditions. For reasons unknown, Parfitt allowed his vehicle to cross the center line going into the westbound lane of travel. Michael A. Krzes was operating his tractor trailer combination westbound and observed Parfitt’s vehicle in his lane of travel. According to Krzes , he applied his brakes and steered his vehicle into the eastbound lane of travel in an attempt to avoid a collision.
According to Wyoming State Patrol, Parfitt suddenly over corrected the steering of his vehicle to the right when his tires went over the westbound rumble strip on the westbound shoulder. Parfitt’s vehicle crossed the centerline back into the eastbound lane of travel where it was struck by Krzes’ combination in the eastbound lane. After impact, both vehicles went off the roadway into the eastbound borrow ditch.
Parfitt died at the scene and Krzes was transported to Niobrara Health & Life Center, where he was treated and released.
Wyoming State Troopers are investigating medical complications and/or driver fatigue as possible contributing factors in this fatal crash.
