With a chance to finish off the first month of the basketball season unbeaten, the Tiger boys went to 3A Newcastle last Friday night and spent most of the game playing catch up. The Dogies were quicker to the ball and the basket right from the tip off as NCHS never got into a comfortable offensive game plan. The game was tied at eight before the home team reeled of eight in a row to go up 16-8. The Tigers came back to get within 18-12 after one period. Kevin Christianson got two easy and early layups to help Lusk get within 18-16 in the low scoring, turnover-laden game. Newcastle led 25-22 at the half with nine turnovers compared to Lusks 13.

The Dogies pulled away slowly in the second half as the Tigers were in complete disarray on both ends of the court. They outscored NCHS 13-5 and led 38-27 with one quarter to play. The lead hovered around ten for most of the final eight minutes until Hunter Dockery and Travis Smith each hit three pointers to get Lusk within 46-43. It was too little too late as just 13 seconds remained and Newcastle buried their free throws to win 49-43.
