As the classic musical number opines, “There’s no business like show business!”
And, the Silver Cliff Theatre Company is in the business of giving the community of Lusk great shows, as is evidenced by the group’s latest offering. Entitled “The Fabulous Follies of 2012,” this forthcoming production invokes the theatrical genre of Vaudeville, which, appropriately enough, has been dubbed “the heart of American show business.”
Popularized from the early 1880s to the early 1930s, Vaudeville presented audiences with an eclectic collection of dancers, singers, comedians, skits, and musical numbers. Likewise, “The Fabulous Follies of 2012” features 20 different acts, including the kookiness of comedy duo Diercks and Myer, the toe-tapping talents of the Silver Cliff Stompers, and the choral cantillating of the Silver Cliff Crooners.
Running a rigorous rehearsal schedule, director and local thespian Randy Hills has endeavored to make “The Fabulous Follies of 2012” more than a run-of-the-mill amateur talent show. His vision has been an ambitious one, as is evidenced his elaborate choreography of each dance number and his sizable cast of diverse performers. Hills’ final objective is the distillation of his cast’s various talents into a sharp and polished piece of variety entertainment.
“The Fabulous Follies of 2012” will hit the Niobrara County High School stage for one weekend only, opening at 7 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 16. This show will be preceded by a gala dinner catered by Hickory Creek Catering. Those who purchase dinner tickets may attend this gala. “The Fabulous Follies of 2012” will run one last time at 2 p.m. on Sunday, Nov. 18.
Tickets are available at Bloomers or can be purchased by calling 334-4104.
