Unofficial 2012 Election Results

Niobrara County witnessed 1,288 citizens exercising their right to vote on Nov. 6, closing a seemingly uneventful election year at the local level.

The unofficial election results were announced late that night with a tie for Niobrara County Rural Fire District between Randy Kraft and Colby Thurston, each receiving 230 votes. This is not a first for Niobrara County. During the August primary election, there had been a tie between Lisa Mellott and Sean Dreesen, who were vying for the elected position of County Coroner. Mellott had won through a revote of mailed-out ballots.

There will be yet another canvassing board that will recount the votes for one open seat on the Niobrara County Hospital District Trustee Board. Two known candidates are Pete Pier and Susan Rex.

Official election results will be finalized on Thursday, Nov. 8.
