LUSK - P.E.O. Chapter I will hold it’s 34th Annual Soup and Salad Luncheon on Oct. 11 at St. George’s Episcopal Church, 11:00 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.
Everyone is invited to the luncheon, which includes homemade vegetable soup, bread, salad bar, cookies, and beverage. P.E.O. members donate all ingredients and prepare all the food “from scratch.” This annual event has become a tradition many local residents eagerly look forward to each fall.
The luncheon was first held in 1978 as a means to raise money to provide scholarships to senior girls graduating from Niobrara County High School. In the past 35 years, more than $13,660 in scholarship money has been awarded, having begun as a $250 scholarship, and increased to $700 in 2004. Additionally, the P.E.O. Sisterhood awards and administers a $350 fine arts award, the Alice Fowler Scholarship. The 2012 P.E.O. scholarship in the amount of $700 was awarded to Hannah Shoults with Shandra Thompson being the alternate. The Gertrude Chamberlain was awarded to Krista Hanson with Ashley Waldock being the alternate. The $700 Continuing Education Scholarship was awarded to Lacey Pfister. Receiving the Alice Fowler Scholarship, in the amount of $350, was Lacey Pfister.
Tickets for the luncheon may be purchased in advance from a P.E.O. member or at the door for $7 each. Call Shelly Bruch at 334-2790 for more information.
