Under ideal weather conditions and competing for the first time since the 6th of April, the Tiger Track & Field team had a very solid day at the Goshen County Invitational in Torrington scoring 64 team points. “Mother nature has not been kind to the track teams around the state during April” commented track coach Dennis Zowada. “But the much needed moisture for our pastures and lawns was a blessing.”

The Tigers were led by Hunter Dockery scoring 17 team points. Hunter earned silver medals in the 400 Meter Dash and the Triple Jump. Both efforts were season personal records for Hunter. In the 400 Meter Dash, Hunter ran 53.37 and had a Triple Jump of 40’ 7 3/4”. Hunter missed prequalifying in the 400 by a mere two-one hundredths of a second. Also earning silver medals were Grady Penfield, Martin Fitzwater and the 4 X 100 Relay team of Dakota Clark, Travis Smith, Kolby Eddy and Grady Penfield. Grady had his best track meet of the year clearing 6’ which also prequalified him for the state track meet which will be held in Casper in three weeks. Grady’s 6’ effort was a personal record. “I was so pleased the way Grady competed in Torrington” said High Jump coach Sandra Johnson. “Pre-qualifying for the state meet was one of our goals for the day” mentioned Coach Johnson. The Tigers now have all of their high jumpers pre-qualified. Kevin Christianson, Travis Smith and Derick VandeBossche had all pre-qualified earlier in the season. Martin Fitzwater had a throw of 44’ 1 1/2” to earn his silver medal and the 4 X 100 relay team ran a seasons best 46.59 which will also pre-qualify the team for the state meet.

Additional medal winners included Derick VandeBossche 3rd in the High Jump (5’10”); Matt VandeBossche 4th in the 300 Hurdles (45.31), 5th in the 110 High Hurdles and 6th in the Long Jump (18’ 9 1/2”); Dakota Clark 5th in Long Jump (19’3 1/4”); Craig Christianson 5th in Pole Vault (11’6”); Logan Lamar 8th in the Long Jump (18’ 6 3/4”). “Matt had a super day” said Coach Zowada, “he had PR’s (Personal 2013 Records) in both hurdle events and the Long Jump.” Dakota Clark also had a PR in the Long Jump.
