The Lady Tigers played their final game of 2012 last Friday night in Newcastle. Instead of finishing on a positive note, NCHS lost their second straight until the new year.
Lexie Dockery knocked down a pair of three pointers in the opening quarter as Lusk got off to a 16-10 start. The uptempo style of play and physical nature of 3A basketball then caught the Lady Tigers off guard a bit. They found a variety of ways to turn the ball over and did so frequently. The Lady Dogies tied the game up minutes before halftime at 21 before edging out to a 26-23 halftime lead. NCHS had 16 first half turnovers, but the home team was barely better with ten. Kiffani Skrukrud opened the second half with a long ranger to tie the game at 26, and another tie at 28 was the last Lusk would see. Newcastle went on a 9-3 run to finish the quarter and stretched the lead to 43-33 midway into the final period. Another Dockery triple and Sami Starkey’s layup on a steal and nice pass from Kaylee Seeds brought the Lady Tigers within 45-39. Newcastle was able to make free throws down the stretch as Lusk could not get any closer and lost by the 50-41 score.
