The NCHS volleyball team had just one game last weekend as Pine Bluffs came to Tiger Gym for a conference game last Friday evening. The visitors got up first with the 7-4 lead but NCHS battled back to tie it at ten. Kenzie Miller rattled off three straight service points to keep the game knotted at 16 and Sami Starkey offered three more minutes later as neither team wanted to lose set one. The game was tied at 22, 24, 25, 26, 27, 28 and 29 and NCHS was focused and intense. A PB ace and NCHS error however gave the hard fought set to the Lady Hornets by a 31-29 score.

The second set was just as close as the first as the struggling Lady Tigers continue to make plays and show improvement all over the court. The hard part has yet to come as learning how to win those close games is the next step. PB again had an early lead and at 11-4 almost had a chance to bury Lusk. The Lady Tigers fought back, as Starkey reeled off four in a row to get within 12-9. A Hailey Bruegger kill tied the game at 16 and from there the game was tied three more times before Pine Bluffs stole the 25-23 set.

Lusk was down two games to none and looked ready to fold early by giving up the first seven points of the third set. But NCHS head coach Kelley Nelson called a timeout and righted the ship quickly. Behind Lexi Dockeryís hot serving hand and some key net play from Hailey Bruegger, Jessica Bruegger and McKayle Mosley the Lusk girls took the 10-9 lead. Lusk led 14-10 and 16-13 before the visitors tied the game at 17. The game was tied once more at 20 before the Lady Hornets were able to pull away for the 25-21 win.

NCHS Player Stats: Starkey - 8 kills; H. Bruegger - 7 kills; Kiffani Skrukrud - 9 assists; Jayci Shoults - 9 assists; J. Bruegger - 3 stuff blocks; Mosley - 2 stuff blocks; Dockery - 7 digs.

The JV defeated Pine Bluffs in two sets.

Friday evening Burns comes to Lusk for three games starting at 3:30 p.m. and on Saturday Saratoga visits for three games starting at 1:30 p.m.
