State Champions! The Lady Tiger Golf Team capped off a great fall season with a dominating performance at the State Tournament in Lovell. Friday the Lady Tigers got off to a good start with a team total of 312 which gave them a 33 stroke lead over their closest competitor Big Horn and a 37 stroke lead over Sundance/Hulett. Abbey Larson led the way with her high school career low round of 97. This put Abbey in 2nd place just two strokes behind Taylor Nance of Big Horn. Amy Bergstrom also had a steady round and was right there in the hunt with her score of 104 which put her in 4th place after the first day. Chelsea Baars had a solid round shooting 111. Bailey Wagner shot 118 and Deneese Henry came in with a round of 155. Saturday the Lady Tigers depth paid off. Any of the girls are capable of shooting a low score and on Saturday it was Chelsea Baar’s day to shoot a career low score of 94. Amy Bergstrom remained steady firing a 105. Abbey Larson ran into some trouble in her round but did a nice job of rebounding and shot 109. Deneese Henry played much better on Saturday shooting 124 and Bailey Wagner finished with a round of 125. The girl’s came in with a team score of 308 on Saturday. They finished with a two day total of 620 to wrap up a State Championship. Big Horn finished 2nd with a team score of 684. Sundance/Hulett ended up 3rd with a score of 688. Lusk had three All-State players led by Chelsea Baars who placed 3rd with a two day total of 205. Abbey Larson placed 4th one stroke behind Chelsea at 206. Amy Bergstrom finished in a tie for 5th with a two day total of 209. The girls team had a great fall capping off their season with their 7th tournament championship of the season with a dominating win at the state tournament. In the school’s history this marks the 7th state championship in golf for the girls and the first team title since 2006.

The boys team knew they would have to play some great golf to have a chance in the tight field and after the first day the team was right in the hunt but they just couldn’t manage to put up the low score’s it would have taken to bring home a trophy. After Friday’s round the boys were in 4th place as a team with a team score of 392. Thermopolis was leading after the first day with a team score of 354. Saturday our boys struggled but battled to come in with a team score of 422 for a two day total of 814 which placed them in 6th place overall for the tournament. Thermopolis widened their lead and came away with the State Championship trophy with a team score of 714. Once again Denton Shaw was one of the favorites in the very competitive field. Denton fired a 79 on the first day to put him in good position in 2nd place 3 strokes behind Jesse McManis of Thermopolis. On Saturday Denton was one stroke down coming into the last few holes but his approach shot to the 17th green caught some bad luck when his shot hit the pin on the first bounce which threw the ball off the green instead of being tight for a birdie. He ended up with a score of 82 on Saturday which was 6 strokes behind McManis of Thermopolis. Denton still had a great season and a good state tournament finishing 2nd in the state overall to earn All-State honors. Parker Pfister was right in the hunt to earn all-state honors after firing a 93 on the first day. Unfortunately Parker couldn’t get anything going the 2nd day and gritted his way to a score of 106 for a two day total of 199. Zack Stephens shot 108 on Friday and followed that with a score of 109 on Saturday for a two day total of 217. Hika Nishida rounded out the scoring with a 112 on Friday and a round of 125 on Saturday for a two day total of 237.
