The Lusk girl’s volleyball team had a difficult weekend as they started fast Friday afternoon in Yoder against the Lady Cyclones, but faded. The first set was a narrow 23-25 loss, but the second saw a bit of meltdown from NCHS in a 25-14 loss. Despite being down 16-7 in the third set, Lusk’s rally came up short in the 25-18 loss and three-set sweep for Southeast.
“We started out the night really tough and then we lost that hard fought first set, and the girls folded,” said head coach Amy Swisher.
NCHS stats: Hannah Shoults-9 points 2 aces, 20 attack attempts 6 kills, 15 passes, 14 digs Rebecca Lashmett-11 attack attempts 3 kills, 10 blocks 1 stuff block. Katelynn Miller-25 points 1 ace. Chrisanna Lund-7 blocks 1 stuff block. Breanna Bredthauer-12 points 2 aces, 61 set attempts 16 assists. Tiffany Risley-6 points, 16 attack attempts 3 kills. Dani Dooper-7 points, 25 passes, 24 digs.
The Lusk pool play on Saturday was just as cruel to the Lady Tigers, as Swisher’s inexperienced team took more lumps. “The girls had a rough weekend, yet we’re continuing to work on all the little things that will make us successful.”
The first match was against Hulett and the Red Devils wasted little time showing why they’re one of class 1A’s top programs. The visitors took two sets by 21-11 and 21-16 scores.
Wright was next up for NCHS, and despite keeping it close early, the home girls let two slip away by 21-13 and 21-14 scores.
The third match of pool play was against Sundance and the Lady Tigers were up 12-8 before a series of errors resulted in a 16-14 Sundance lead. The visitors went on to win the set 21-17, and the second one over a deflated Lusk group by a 21-15 score.
Bracket play found the Lady Tigers up against Glenrock, where NCHS again, started fast but faded quickly. The Lady Herders eliminated Lusk with 21-14 and 21-10 scores.
NCHS stats: Hannah Shoults-19 points 7 aces, 55 attack attempts 13 kills, 13 blocks, 3 stuff blocks, 47 passes, 23 digs. Rebecca Lashmett-15 points, 16 blocks 1 stuff block. Katelynn Miller-17 points 2 aces, 28 attack attempts 8 kills. Amber Christianson-20 passes. Chrisanna Lund-11 attack attempts 3 kills, 7 blocks 1 stuff block. Breanna Bredthauer-27 points 4 aces, 19 attack attempts 4 kills, 206 set attempts 34 assists, 14 digs. Tiffany Risley-12 points, 25 attack attempts 4 kills, 14 blocks 1 stuff blocks, 20 passes, 16 digs. Dani Dooper-59 passes, 61 digs.
