Betty Ione Fernau Morgan passed away on Jan. 26, 2013 at the extended care facility of Niobrara Health and Life Center. She was born on Nov. 28, 1925 in Lusk, Wyoming to John J. and Anna Christina Fernau. She was the youngest of fourteen siblings. Betty lived her entire life in Lusk. She graduated from Lusk High School in 1944. Shortly after graduating from high school, she worked as a clerk in the Niobrara County Clerk’s office. She rose to the position of Deputy County Clerk and later was elected as the County Clerk. She retained this title until her retirement.
Betty married Voyne “Bud” C. Morgan on Nov. 7, 1948. There were no children to this union.
She was preceded in death by her parents and her thirteen siblings: George, Ivan, Harry, Louise, Edith, Isabelle, Florence, Henry, Lloyd, Dale, Walter, Bonnie, and Robert. Harry and Walter were also lifelong residents of Lusk.
She is survived by numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces and nephews on both her and her husband’s side, and her cat, Kato. Among these are Margylou Fernau and Kay Morgan Smith of the local area.
Cremation has taken place under the direction of Pier Funeral Home and inurnment will be at Lusk Cemetery. As per Betty’s request, there will be no memorial service. A remembrance will be held at a later date.
