Brian Craig Ruffing, born Nov. 23, 1969, in Powell, Wyo. to Robert D and Judy K (Pate) Ruffing, passed away on Sept. 12, 2012.
He attended schools in Powell Wyo., Stanley ND, and McCook, Neb. before graduating high school in Salisbury, Mo. He graduated from Northeast Missouri State University in Kirksville with a Bachelors of Science degree in Marine Biology.
Brianís Wildland Fire Fighting career began in 1989 with the State of Idaho and spanned over 22 years with the Bureau of Land Management and U S Forest Service, finishing as Forest Aviation Officer on the Flathead National Forest in Kalispell, MT. He also served as a Helibase Manager on a Type 2 Incident Command Team.
His beloved daughter, Amanda, was born in April 2009.
He is survived by his daughter, Amanda; his parents Bob and Judy; his sister Lori Ann (Lon) Holloman; nephew Bryce; niece Meghan; aunts: Donna Ruffing, Gloria (Andy) Nelson, and Carolyn (Irv) Skillings; and numerous cousins. He was preceded in death by his grandparents Albert and Gertrude Ruffing and Tod and Elouise Pate.
Brianís body was cremated and his ashes were scattered over the Ruffing ranch at a private service was held on Sept. 19, 2012.
Pier Funeral Home coordinated the arrangements.
Memorials may be made to the Brian C Ruffing Memorial Wildland Firefighter Care Fund or the Amanda Kay Ruffing Trust and mailed to Judy Ruffing at 884 Lane 11 1/2 Powell, WY 82435.
Brian touched many lives and will be greatly missed.
