The Wyoming High School Art Symposium began in 1968 in the Laramie High School Gymnasium with three participating schools. Currently, this three day annual all state conference has an average of 60 schools participating and 1200 students attending. It is sanctioned by the Wyoming State High School Activities Association and is sponsored by the Wyoming Secondary Art Educators. The Symposium activities include the public art exhibit, individual and team student competitions and creative events, workshops, career and advance degree exhibits, scholarships, interviews, local art gallery and museum tours, and an annual awards banquet.

Symposium activities took place at the Casper Events Center on April 25, 26, and 27, 2013. There were 4,362 pieces of student artwork on display this year. Out of the total entries, 25 percent were awarded a WSAE blue ribbon. Judging panels included current and retired art teachers, art professors, members of the Wyoming Arts Council, and various other volunteers.
