Two controversial issues, namely a gun bill and fracking, have occasioned an online war of words between Republican Representative Hans Hunt and liberal theologian Audette Fulbright. The polemical melee began on Thursday, Feb. 8 when Fulbright emailed legislators to voice her “grave concern about Bill 105.”
Bill 105 would have allowed Wyomingites to conceal and carry forearms in educational institutions under certain conditions, including stipulations that the gun owner would be 21 or older and that prior notification would be made to the school authorities. Two hours of testimony before the Senate Education Committee on Friday, Feb. 9 ended with the death of Bill 105. Immolation of the controversial piece of legislation was tacitly facilitated by the committee’s lack of motion. This indirect death sentence allows lawmakers to avoid blemishing their otherwise favorable records with the National Rifle Association.
