WMPA raises electric rates

Keeping the lights might take a greater toll on local pocketbooks soon. The Lusk Town Council voted to accept an ordinance establishing amended electric rates on Tuesday, Dec. 4. Under the ordinance, the town electric rate will increase about 7.5 percent. According to Lusk Electrical Superintendent Royce Thompson, this hike was necessitated by a rate increase being enacted by Lusk’s wholesaler, Wyoming Municipal Power Agency (WMPA).

Lusk Electrical Superintendent Royce Thompson said, “All we’re doing is passing on the rate increase to our residential and commercial customers.”

Of course, what the amended rate will translate to in terms of dollars and cents hinges on each customer’s rate of usage. To help consumers develop some idea of the potential future cost, Thompson invoked a hypothetical model.
