On Dec. 28, 2011 what appears to have been a grave was partially dug up on a building site on the west side of Lusk on 4th Street.
According to County Coroner, Lisa Mellott, she was notified by local authorities to assess the dig site. Mellott said that the site appeared to be a partial grave with what appeared to be partial fragments of an unknown childís remains.
Mellott is working with the University of Wyoming, where the remains will be transported, in determining the carbon date, age and sex of the remains.
The site where the alleged grave was found had been the Lusk Cemetery before being relocated to its present location north of Lusk in the early 1900ís.
This is not the first time graves had been found in this area.
Several years ago a local resident was building his home when two graves were unearthed across from the most recent unearthing. Due to lack of documentation there is no way of determining who or where burials are in that area of town.
