Lusk native Luke Frye has recently joined Sen. John Barrasso in Washington D.C. to participate in the internship program at the beginning of January.

Frye, a 2007 NHCS graduate and a third year student at the University of Wyoming, has always held an interest in politics.

“I was pleased to be picked as an intern for Sen. Barrasso,” Frye said.

“It has been great so far being in Washington D.C. You can eat at a different restaurant every day and never eat at the same place twice.”

Frye, along with two other Wyoming college students, will be working in Sen. Barrasso’s office through May. Some of his duties include keeping track of news articles that involve Sen. Barrasso, arranging photos and on Wednesday’s, which are known as “Wyoming Wednesday’s”, where time is spent with the Senators and constitutes of Wyoming.

Although Frye’s new job isn’t a typical one for a college student he is well aware of the life experience he is learning first hand at what Washington D.C. and the voice of the Wyoming people mean.

Growing up in Lusk he had his own lawn care business and hopes to continue to work in the private sector after graduating. Frye still hasn’t disregarded a future in politics though.

“I’ve always been interested in government with attending Boys State,” Frye said. “I really appreciate everyone in Lusk that has supported me through their influences that have allowed me to do the thing that am doing now.”

“America is facing serious challenges and we need more people like Luke in Washington. I know he will do a great job,” Barrasso said. “Our state is very fortunate to have highly qualified students like Luke serving the people of Wyoming.”

Frye is currently studying accounting and will be in Washinton D.C. for four months.
