Becky Craig moves up to Wyoming Supreme Court
Posted: Thursday, Jan 28th, 2010

Becky Craig, Chief Clerk of the Circuit Court for Niobrara County and former secretary for the Meier Law Office, has accepted a position with the Office of the Administrator for the Wyoming Supreme Court. Becky, wife of Jim Craig, long time educator at LEMS, was selected for the position from a field of 69 applicants following interviews and testing.

Becky began her career in the legal area when she became the legal secretary for the Meier Law Office in 1977. In 1986 she also assumed the role of Clerk for the Justice of the Peace Court while continuing as legal secretary to two lawyers in the law office.

When the Justice of the Peace converted to the Circuit Court system in 2003 she became the “part time” Clerk of the Niobrara County Circuit Court continuing as the manager of the Meier Law Office. In 2005 she became the Chief Clerk of the Circuit Court full time.

Becky will be joining the Office of the Administrator for the Supreme Court in Cheyenne on Feb. 1, 2010.

That office’s responsibility includes coordination of board and committees of the various state court systems, budgeting and fiscal matters for the Supreme Court and all Circuit Courts in the State of Wyoming and the technology components of all courts in the state. Becky will be joined in Cheyenne by her husband Jim in the spring.

They have two children, Katie, who is teaching school in Craig, Colo., and Seth, who is a financial analyst in Minneapolis, Minn.

When asked if she was surprised that just one day it’s time to move out of Lusk after working here 32 years? Becky answered, “ I am surprised, but everything just fell into place.” Becky also went on to say “I’m nervous yet excited about this new opportunity. I have to thank Denny for taking a chance on hiring an inexperienced legal secretary 32 years ago. He told me back then that if I didn’t work out within the initial two weeks, that I’d be ‘down the road.’ It just took three decades plus for him to get rid of me! Seriously, my time at the Meier Law Office, and eventually the Circuit Court Clerk position, was the best legal education/training I could ever hope for.

Thanks also to Sarah Smith for taking on my former position. She and her family are a great addition to the Lusk community.”

Which is a good thing, because speaking for myself, and many others, this community will no longer have in it a great plus that has been here for a long time. Good luck in Cheyenne Becky and Jim!
