Renovation makes its way to LEMS and NCHS

LUSK- The Niobrara County school board meeting kicked off their meeting at 6:00 p.m. on May 22. They immediately dove into special awards. Teacher/coach Ed Fullmer was presented with coach of the year, Nathan Fish received the SEWAC southeast athletic wrestler of the year. Students of the month were Macy Lyons and Ella Lashmett. Congratulations to these students and teachers for their hard work and dedication to Niobrara school district. The budget for next year was approved.

There will be renovations taking place for the upcoming school year. In July they will start to entertain contractors for the installation of a new back-up generator. The second task will be; improving the audio and sound system in both buildings. The systems will be around 300,000.00 dollars per building. However the schools will greatly benefit from the new system. The high school gymnasium will undergo some work as well. The gym floor will be completely taken down to the bare oak. There is some exciting news, a new design will also be added to the gym floor as well as completely resurfacing. Revamping of the ceilings and new paint on the walls will also be added. This project will take place June 9 through mid-July. After the high school, they will quickly move down the street to LEMS to start on their gym floor. This will all be finished before the upcoming school year begins.

Nila McCann, a teacher at Lance Creek will be retiring, the school board is entertaining the idea of a new Lance Creek teacher to take her place.

The board moved to executive session at 8:05 pm and upon returning to public session covered the rehire and hire recommendation list, which were approved. Sarah DesEnfants will be the new preschool teacher for the 23-24 school year. Winter coaching recommendations were also approved. The Isolation voucher was approved for Ashiley Lang for the 22-23 school year. Angi O’ Leary will fill the Special Education teacher slot for the 23-24 school year. The discussion of board evaluations from the previous meeting will be covered in the upcoming meeting. After the discussion of these final items the meeting was adjourned at 8:45 p.m
