The 4- H Shooting Sports Club held its indoor County Shoot on May 3, 2009, at the Niobrara County Fairgrounds.

First year competitors were Taylor Gaukel, Trisha Hales, and Jake Hiel. They gave an impressive showing and had a good time competing. The results of the Pistol Division were 1st place going to Taylor Gaukel, 2nd place to Trisha Hales, and 3rd place to Jack Hiel. In the Archery Division 1st place went to Jake Hiel and 2nd to Taylor Gaukel. In the Overall Rifle Division 1st place went to Trisha Hales, 2nd Jake Hiel, and 3rd Taylor Gaukel. The first year kids also completed a written skills test. Jake Hiel scored 17/21 to take 1st place with Taylor Gaukel and Trisha Hales tied for 2nd place with 12/21.

Five kids competed in the Junior Category with Taten Gaukel taking 1st place in the Pistol Division, Tucker Stephens taking 2nd, Kylee Gaukel with 3rd, Kaden Gaukel with 4th, and Chancey Hales with 5th. In the Archery Division Chancy Hales won 1st place in Class A. In Class B action, Tuckers Stephens won 1st place, Kylee Gaukel 2nd place, Taten Gaukel 3rd place, and Kaden Gaukel 4th place. In Class D Archery, Monte Wade won 1st place. In the Overall Rifle Division, 1st place went to Kylee Gaukel, 2nd place to Taten Gaukel, and 3rd place to Tucker Stephens. The Junior competitors also took a written skills test where Kylee Gaukel took 1st place with a 18/21, Chancey Hales received 2nd with 17/21, Taten Gaukel received 3rd with 15/21, Kaden Gaukel and Monte Wade tied for 4th with a score of 13/21, and Tucker Stephens received 5th.

Five kids also competed in the Intermediate Category with Dax Dockery winning 1st place in the Pistol Division, Kaitlin Gaukel taking 2nd, Jessica Bruegger 3rd, and Zack Stephens 4th. In Class B Archery, Dax Dockery won 1st place, Zack Stephens 2nd place, Jessica Bruegger 3rd place, and Kaitlin Gaukel 4th place. In Class D Archery, Bryce Sturman won 1st place. In the Overall Rifle Division, Dax Dockery placed 1st, Bryce Sturman 2nd, Kaitlin Gaukel 3rd, and Zack Stephens 4th. Their written skills scores were as follows: Zack Stephens with a 15/15 to win 1st place, Dax Dockery and Jessica Bruegger tied for 2nd with 11/15, and Kaitlin Gaukel and Bryce Sturman tied for 3rd with 10/15.

There were three, Senior competitors with Harley Cushman winning 1st place in the Pistol Division, Jessie Sturman winning 2nd, and Taylor Kinchen winning 3rd. In Class B Archery, Jessie Sturman placed 1st, and in Class D Archery, Taylor Kinchen was 1st with Harley Cushman 2nd. In Overall Rifle, Jessie Sturman placed 1st and Harley Cushman placed 2nd. The Senior competitors results of the skills test were Jessie Sturman 1st with a score of 13/15, Taylor Kinchen in 2nd place with 11/15 points, and Harley Cushman in 3rd with 7/15 points.

These great kids have worked hard improving their skills all season, and it was evident by the increase in their scores at this county contest.
